David Scriven ’70 is a key figure among the Mines Football alumni from the 1960s. He graduated from Mines with a professional degree in mining engineering and currently serves as the CEO of IronTech Resources. An unofficial spokesman for the ‘60s decade of Mines Football alumni, his leadership and dedication resonate deeply within the community. While his visible contributions are impressive, it’s his extensive behind-the-scenes efforts that truly set him apart. David has invested his time and experience in the parent-driven Quarterback Club, actively encouraging many of his fellow former players to get involved as well. Until recently, he managed these responsibilities from out of state, often at his own expense. For David, it’s a labor of love, driven by his commitment to the Mines Football Family and the larger Mines community.

He believes it’s crucial for current players and their parents to recognize the value of their investment in the program. David wants them to know they are supported by alumni who genuinely care about their academic and athletic success. In this way, he embodies the spirit of the Melville Coolbaugh Award. As a reliable and inspiring presence around the football program, David has gone above and beyond to enhance the image and reputation of the Colorado School of Mines. His contributions are immeasurable, and as one peer put it, “his checks always cash.” David Scriven is a true leader for the Mines Football community, deserving of heartfelt gratitude for his unwavering support.
